The human is a complicated piece of art and science. We are the most intelligent species on Earth. Or so we think.
Sometimes I wonder if we are giving ourselves too much credit.
I had a 90 pound tortoise for a few years. I had no idea how old it was. They can live up to 150 years. It was the most poorly designed creature I have ever encountered. It had to drag around an incredibly heavy and awkwardly shaped shell. Its head could barely reach the ground to chew on grass. If a tortoise gets turned on its back it will dehydrate and die. The poor thing struggled to navigate my yard, but it was relentless at attempting to escape. It was determined to be free, to explore, and to conquer territory! It was incredibly athletic and strong, but equally clumsy and destructive. Yet, with all of its physical handicaps, tiny brain, lack of tools, and limited mobility, tortoises far outlive most humans!
It is truly a Stone Age beast, yet here it was training me to provide heated shelter and water!
My point is, who are we to judge intelligence?
Sure, we send astronauts into space, and we can grow our own food. But we have yet to master the art of assimilation. We fight over everything! We can’t agree on anything. The human race is in a constant state of war!
For everyone who sees black there are an equal number of humans who see white. Many people treasure human life, but there may well be an equal or greater number who are indifferent to life or who may actually worship death!
Can you come up with any subject on Earth that we humans can absolutely, 100% agree on? If you say yes, I am going to disagree.
So where do we get off thinking we are the superior species?
I was looking at a map of the Earth today. It illustrates that more than half of the Earth’s human population live in a relatively small area of East Asia. The thought occurred to me: What kind of recycling program do those people implement?
Do they have automobiles that get 50 miles to the gallon?
Do they separate their garbage?
Do they turn off the water when they brush their teeth?
Do they have low flow toilets?
Have they banned incandescent light bulbs yet?
Our esteemed California Governor Gavin Newsom often speaks of “Showing the world the way to conservation and reducing global warming.” Maybe he should take a trip over there before he signs into law anymore harebrained schemes to punish Californians with stupid environmental programs that chase away jobs, drain resources and stifle innovation.
This Global Warming Movement is so crazy it would be laughable if it weren’t for the fact so many people buy into it!
The great social observer Forrest Gump once said, “Stupid is as stupid does!”
